Drawing from published books as well as the Suzuki Roshi archives, this study group is distinct from a class in that it is ongoing, with content shifting with time and interest - as opposed to a syllabus with a plan and expectations. We have found that studying Dogen together is very rich, not only for what Dogen has to say but most importantly how our insights jump into life and flourish in each other’s speech. What Dogen has amplified for us is a playful confidence in describing zazen and our daily life, and in these gatherings the strong encouragement to explore and express it together.
